AGE: 26 (30Jun85)

PERSONAL BEST: 2:06:05 (Amsterdam, 2011)

MARATHON HIGHLIGHTS:
16Oct11 TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2nd 2:06:05

CAREER NOTES:
Laban Korir made his marathon debut last year in Amsterdam and ran a competitive 2:06:05 race to finish runner-up to winner Wilson Chebet. Second place was a hard fought battle as Korir had to edge out pacemaker-turned-contender Erick Ndiema, who finished in 2:06:07. Korir’s time was the third fastest debut marathon behind 2011 Boston runner-up Moses Mosop and 2003 Chicago winner Evans Rutto. Korir began his racing career in 2008 as a half marathon specialist. In 2008 he won the Setubal Half Marathon and in 2009 won the Pombai Meia-Marathon. At the Rome-Ostia Half Marathon on February 26, Korir improved his personal best half marathon time to 1:00:38.

PERSONAL NOTES:
Korir trains in Kaptagat and says he started running in school because his friends were also running. His proudest accomplishment is his Amsterdam Marathon debut. Korir says because his career has just started and because he is so young, he has high expectations. With his earnings from running he has recently bought a small piece of land. When he is not training he likes to watch movies. Korir is affiliated with the Global Sports group and is managed by Jos Hermens.
